1. For the newspaper announcement discussing tuberculosis, I used online databases written about Victorian daily life regarding health and medicine. These were able to effectively give me detail about how the disease affected society where I could portray it as if I was writing an announcement to the people of the country to inform them of the epidemic and how they could be infected and what preventative measures should be taken. Databases were best for this type of genre because I needed to be able to provide accurate facts regarding the disease.
2. The personal letter from a boy to his future self also came from research from online databases. Most of this genre was creative writing because it was from the prospective of a boy in that time period, but when needed to include information on how to become a doctor in that time period I referred to specific sections in health and medicine databases.
3. The timeline of medical advancements came from a string of online websites. Instead of just taking the just the advancements in one section of medicine, I decided to compile a long list of different kinds of advancements in the medical field to show how much was developed and evolved and to make it a work of my own. Different websites were able to give me different insight into things that were discovered. Also with looking at so many different websites, if things were repeated it showed that it was an important advancement in that time period because it had been announced on different occasions.
4. The journal series written from the view of someone interested in publishing work on workhouse infirmaries was also largely creative writing rather than factual based. I did use research from online websites that took different approaches to viewing the conditions of a workhouse infirmary and combined the information I had compiled to best explain the situation.
5. For the treatment glossary a bunch of websites were combined as well to gather all the information needed. At first, I had just the pictures of the surgery tools but decided to add what their direct uses were and what treatments in that time period they could also be used for because I was able to find more information. Websites were the best use for this type of genre because they were able to provide me with the weird ways that Victorians performed medicine. Also, the pictures were gathered from a series of different websites. Databases or academic journals didn’t show these strange ways of medicine considering they weren’t too scientific and sterile during this time.
